Opportunity to Support Community Colleges April 25 at 5:30 p.m.

Please mark your calendar for this Monday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. State legislators are coming to visit to hear about higher education needs.
The legislature has formed a Joint Taskforce on Student Success for Underrepresented Students in Higher Education. The Taskforce is touring the state and will be visiting universities and community colleges, including a visit to Eugene on April 25. LCC faculty are invited and encouraged to attend the public hearing scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at UO, Erb Memorial Union, room 214 (Redwood Auditorium). There will be pizza for participants at Bartolotti’s at EMU.

In addition to helping inform legislators about higher education and student needs, the taskforce’s state tours are designed to set the stage for direly needed investments in higher education in the next legislative session, and this is an important opportunity for all LCC supporters from campus and the community to collaborate and come together in support of community colleges.

Community college visibility is important at these events, and faculty are encouraged to wear clothing that identifies their affiliation with LCC. This could include: LCC t-shirts, LCCEA t-shirts, and/or “Fund our Future; Fund our Colleges” t-shirts from the 2019 rally on campus.

It is not necessary to testify to participate — just come wearing an LCC or LCCEA t-shirt to show your support for state investment in community colleges.

Anyone who has questions will also find LCC’s Public Affairs Director, Brett Rowlett, and faculty member, Jim Salt, as well as OEA consultant, Cynthia Campos, at the event to help. They will have some red “Fund our Colleges” and LCCEA t-shirts on hand for anyone who may need one.
